The ABRT Center with Kennedy Krieger Institute (Center) will provide a leading spinal cord injury and paralysis neural restoration program that was developed and spearheaded by John W. McDonald, M.D., Ph.D. from Kennedy Krieger Institute. Our program is built on the philosophy that with the right combination of therapies recovery is always possible, even many months of year after an injury.
The Center will be one of the first free standing, comprehensive rehabilitation Continuum of Care, to bring an extensive therapy program that provides chronic neuro-rehabilitation in the northwest. This Center will be accredited by both CARF(Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and JCAHO(Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).
Each patient will receive treatment from a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team under the direction of a network of board-certified physician specializing in spinal cord injury and paralysis treatment. Working collaboratively toward the patient’s goals; the team consists of physical, occupational, and speech therapists, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dieticians, and other committed professionals. The patient’s family members will also be encouraged to participate in the recovery process through daily and overnight visits, and patient/family conferences.
